EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BELOW:
What inspired you to be a singer?
I believe music chose me. My passion for singing and acting manifested itself when I was very little with me performing to a living room audience at the age of 5. I am grateful to my parents who supported my passion and provided me with a strong foundation in the creative arts including dance, drama, and music, as a child. I was able to harness and develop my acting skills further and played lead roles in yearly summer Broadway performances.
The inspiration for writing songs was all around me and I had already started writing melodies at the age of 6 and began performing to a larger audience. I captured anything around me that inspired me at that age such as colors and animals and put it into a song. By the age of 10, my articulation developed as my thoughts
and emotions matured, and I had written and composed my very first original song along with an EP in just a few days titled “Destiny’s Calling”. The lyrics were very raw, pure, and straight from the heart. My elementary school years were a challenging time for me, being bullied. It was during this time, music became my sole companion and opened up a plethora of avenues. I grabbed my acoustic guitar and dived deep into songwriting. This was the defining moment in my life when I knew that I wanted to pursue music for the rest of my life. Most importantly, I wanted to give back by inspiring others to feel the same magic that I experience through music. “Destiny’s Calling” was a basement recording that led to my future professional studio recordings. There has been no looking back ever since. I released my Debut Album “Ready to Run” created all through these trying times in history - the pandemic. And here I am with the first release of my next EP - “Dancing On My Heart” Please feel free to check out my new music as well through your favorite socials!
What message do you hope to send through your music?
Through the medium of the arts, music enables me to deliver simple yet positive and inspiring messages by reiterating self-worth through my own experiences of bullying during my early childhood. Music has the power to heal. By raising awareness, and being a mental health ambassador by collaborating with platforms and campaigns that also champion the cause, I want to enhance awareness and reduce the negative stigma that is so often associated with mental illness. I want to empower others to be unapologetically themselves, discover their innate strength, and feel good about themselves.
Although I must admit that I do miss the experience of a zesty uproar from the audience as the floodlights flash into a kaleidoscope of alternating colors on a live stage. Performing to an audience who enjoys my music enables me to feed off their positive vibes. I just cannot describe it in words - its like getting your pay cheque! I am overcome with feelings of exhilaration and ecstasy wanting to perform encore after encore and it really is the best feeling in the world! The interpersonal synchrony and social cohesion achieved through the power of music just blows my mind away, even if it’s online.
In my music videos, I always ensure there is dancing, colors, and big energy in my music videos! I love when they are filled with eye-catching visuals and graphics that represent my unique fashion style, hoping it will transport the viewer to a different world even if it is for 3 minutes. I try to represent my artist brand in a way that takes the uplifting and empowering messages from my music and channel that energy through a vibrant and exuberant visual style. This is reflected in my personality as well.
Do you do live performances?
Absolutely! However, with the pandemic gripping the world, no doubt things are different now and we are all trying to adapt to the “new norm” of living. Though the live music and grassroots in-person shows and performances are diminished right now, it has opened up a plethora of online avenues and live streams. Stay tuned and connect with me through my socials for updates.
What is your creative process when developing new music?
Music itself is a universal language. Being a musician, I feel it is important to explore different styles and genres. While the genre of my music is pop, the uniqueness of my sound is created by fusing other sub-genres into my songs. When it comes to my original music, I like to give every song a different vibe with its own identity through my own unique voice and songwriting style.
Somehow the most honest work comes when you aren’t trying to push for something and you allow your creativity to flow. With my raw vocals, a victorious spirit, and honest storylines, I try to be as transparent as possible. I have quite a vivid imagination, which opens up the floodgates to many ideas all at once. This
can be overwhelming at first, but once I organize my thoughts and emotions, everything is put into perspective. When it comes to the early stages of writing my songs, there is no specific format or golden recipe that I use every time... that’s the beauty of it! The music could come before or after the writing, or the lyrics and melody could resonate at the same time. Each song has its own creative journey and tells a different story.
What are some challenges you have faced that you feel other aspiring musicians should know?
We sometimes hear about songwriters having writer’s block, but what if it was too many ideas all at once instead? Personally, the main challenge I experience while writing is learning to deal with my vivid imagination, which opens up the floodgates to many ideas all at once. When I’m writing a song, sometimes I would think of many great ideas for lyrics, and would just love to share them all. That’s when I try to prioritize the lyrics that I think would connect with my listeners the most. Dealing with so many ideas at the same time can be overwhelming at first, but once I organize my thoughts and emotions, everything is put into perspective and the feeling is absolutely rewarding.
Tell us about "Dancing on My Heart"
“Dancing On My Heart” is a riveting party anthem inspired by the universally relatable struggle of moving on after a breakup when your ex-lover finds any opportunity to let themselves back into your life. I wanted to create something fun and playful, but also empowering and impactful. I wanted to write something upbeat that would instill energy and exuberant confidence in my listeners. The track’s infectious tune showcases my abilities as a vocalist by enabling my voice to soar through the song’s wide range and emphasizes my soulful vocals through the melodic structure. I absolutely thrive on powerful beats and catchy melodies that are accompanied by my energetic and charismatic delivery.
The songwriting process for “Dancing On My Heart” was unlike any of my previous releases, in a good way. It definitely is one of my favorites and showcases my artistic evolution. As my Debut Album was entirely self-written and self-composed, this was the first track that I collaborated on with established songwriters. Also, it was written entirely through one zoom session! Aside from some technical glitches, the writing process was smooth sailing, and it was a blast jamming out with my producers in LA over zoom! It was incredibly refreshing to be able to bounce ideas off each other and get into each other’s headspaces, rather than solely listening to and recording my own thoughts. It was a perfect opportunity to feed off the creative chemistry with my collaborators, and vibing with the positive energy in the room was very liberating. Although it was all virtual, it felt like an in-person session! Once we started to kick around some ideas and throw words into the air, “Dancing On My Heart” was conceived!
The track is definitely filled with lots of feel-good vibes, mature and clever lyricism, sassy undertones, and sugar-coated gooeyness that will surely get your heart racing and dancing!!
Do you do any live Q&A's on Instagram?
Yes, I love doing those! My followers are from different parts of the world so they interact with me from different time zones which is super fun and I love answering their questions as they want to know more about me as an artist and as a person. “Dancing On My Heart” particularly has been a very humbling experience to see my followers being so creative and making their own personalized videos to it and what is even more amazing is to see different demographics from ages 03-90 years vibe to it.
Any other hidden talents you would like to share?
This is a great question! Having been classically trained, I can sing in Italian, German, French, Spanish, Chinese and of course English. Being a musician, I feel it is important to explore different styles, genres, and languages. As English is my first and only language, studying and performing different vocal pieces in diverse languages has not only enhanced my abilities as a musician but has also educated me and expanded my horizons on varied cultures. Vocally, classical studies have strengthened my technique and shaped my soulful and powerful voice. Music history and theory have enriched me as I am able to use this knowledge when it comes to my songwriting and composing.
Any new upcoming projects you are currently working on?
Though these are unprecedented times, I hope to go on tours and travel the world, hoping it would be safe enough to do so totally. I am also working on collaborations with international artists and producers which is very exciting. I will be releasing my EP next year and hope to connect and vibe with a wider audience in a live setting again soon!
I am also preparing for some international radio interviews, podcasts as well as digital magazine features. I’m excited to be collaborating on the remix for some of my songs with different producers and establishing synergies in the future.
Life advice to your fans?
I am humbled, grateful and feel blessed by their love and appreciation for my work. Their support means the world to me and they are part of my extended family. My fans are my priority always. No matter what I choose to write about, I always aim to convey the message of self-empowerment through my music. It is incredibly important to spread love towards others, especially in this day and age. However, I believe
that being kind towards others always starts with self-love and self-compassion. My message to them would be to “dream your dream, keep the faith, work hard and stay humble!"
"I am a strong believer that mental well-being is as important as our physical well-being. Especially in this day and age, and where the world is adversely impacted, economically, socially, and emotionally, I truly believe each one of us has a responsibility even if it means a small drop in the ocean. It is important to keep our minds fit and strong. Kindness, being humble, and smiles go a long way in spreading positivity. With the medium of the arts, music enables me to deliver simple yet positive inspiring messages by reiterating self-worth through my own experiences of bullying during my early childhood. Music has the power to heal. By raising awareness, and being a mental health ambassador by collaborating with platforms and campaigns that also champion the cause, I want to enhance awareness and reduce the negative stigma that is so often associated with mental illness.
As a mental health ambassador for different charity organizations, my goal is to inspire and impact people positively to build their self-confidence and self-esteem. As a qualified vocal mentor, I am dedicated to giving back to the community, by helping the youth to amplify their voice in society and to develop and pursue their passion. By sharing my own story, I want to encourage teens to focus on their dreams and pursue their passion.
I try to represent my artist brand in a way that takes the uplifting and empowering messages from my music, and channels that energy through a vibrant and exuberant visual style. This is reflected in my personality as well. With the pandemic gripping the world, no doubt, we are living in unprecedented times. Being a self-managed artist, I direct my thoughts to write music with inspiring themes but also work on the lyrics and music videos as well and release music. Paradoxically, it has been a productive experience amidst turbulent times. I personally feel I have been able to set short-term goals and be a better version of myself having this extra time to do so. I have been involved with charities such as ‘Pink Shirt Day Charity’ and the ‘Bullies Reality foundation’ both of which support a great cause – the fight against bullying, especially children. Being a victim of bullying as a child, I totally relate with this and this cause is close to my heart. It is simple acts like listening to young people around us that make a huge difference. By wearing a pink shirt, you can show support and solidarity and take a stand against bullying in any shape or form. And that is one of the main reasons I am also a vocal Mentor to the youth. I want to be able to encourage, motivate and support them through their creative journey and provide them with a strong foundation to hone their craft. I have also been a mental health ambassador for various non-profit organizations such as ‘Star Stuff Charity’ with a goal to inspire and impact teens positively. ‘Star Stuff’ is dedicated to helping teens with any insecurities to build their self-confidence and self-esteem. I try to get involved in my community as much as I can, especially in events that raise mental health awareness. For two consecutive years, I have been an active performer at Youth Day Global and was invited to host the 2020 first-ever virtual celebration of the Youth in Arts. Further, I believe education is key and was invited by my city council in my hometown, to be a special guest speaker for Music Monday 2021. As a qualified mentor in the arts, I am dedicated to helping the youth to amplify their voice in society and to develop and pursue their passion. By sharing my own story of bullying, I want to encourage teens to focus on their dreams."
